Operations normally consist of a locomotive-hauled rake of wagons hauled through the Dockyard by locomotives from our fleet. Savour the atmosphere of train working-a bonus for photographers too!
Do you have a relation or friend that has a steam background, perhaps a retired B.R. Driver or someone who worked with industrial steam during their working lives-or someone who is just interested in the experience?, we can help you revive memories of days gone by.
If you plan to visit Chatham's Historic Dockyard when the Steam Railway is operating, and contact us in advance, we can arrange a footplate pass, which would allow the recipient to participate in a round trip of the railway on the footplate. We do not charge for footplate passes, but at the end of trip, you may wish to make a voluntary contribution to our locomotive restoration fund. Note however, that it is necessary to pay the normal enterance fee to the Historic Dockyard for access to the site and the steam locomotives.
