H.M.S. KHARTOUM [F45] was a K-class destroyer named after the capital of Sudan.
It is thought that the locomotive was originally named after the seige of Khartoum in 1898.
The ship was ordered from Swan Hunter in March 1937 and laid down on the 27th October 1937.
The ship was launched on the 6th February 1939 and commissioned on the 6th November 1939.
On the 25th June 1943 the ship was abandoned after a fire reached the aft magazine.
